Match Recap
On a breezy afternoon at Rancho Jurupa sports complex, a crowd of fewer than 50 people saw MAFO and Fontana take the field. Fontana had a significantly bigger and older starting 11, while MAFO had a smaller, younger squad (late teens, early twenties). The game was even for the first 25 minutes; Fontana being patient, absorbing the attack, clearing the ball, and their keeper making two good saves to keep Fontana in the match. Their downside was not completing the transition after the turnover with numerous incomplete passes. Meanwhile, MAFO is playing the long ball, sticking to the right side, having more possession, and the wingers making individual moves to get into dangerous positions to make the cross. They had many good ideas; however, their execution wasn’t 100%, but Fontana would complete an attacking effort from their mistakes. During the 25th minute, MAFO opened the scoring first with a cross to the middle of the box and tapped it in from the right side. For the rest of the half, the game would be on Fontana’s final 3rd and MAFO breaking through the right wing. Then MAFO makes their 2nd goal from the left wing after play advantage, and the winger slots a low shot to the right post. MAFO would get their third goal from the right wing again as the forward nutmegs the keeper on the left side. Then just before stoppage time, Fontana suffers a big blow as their midfielder goes for a tackle that makes the MAFO player flip to the sideline, and Fontana Inter ends the half 3-0 down with 10 men.
The second half saw the beginning of the end for Fontana Inter as the next 45 minutes saw them allow 5 unanswered goals that beat them morally and decided to bunker down the whole time. The match ends 8-0; MAFO records their 2nd win and moves to 8th place with a bye week next weekend. While Fontana stays in 10th place as they prepare for Storm United next week.
